Craft and Connect: How Happy Sheep's Farmhouse Brings Creative Communities Together

Happy Sheep's Farmhouse at Happy Sheep Creations

Nestled in the scenic charm of Monroe County, New York, Happy Sheep’s Farmhouse is a place where history, creativity, and community come together. As the home of Happy Sheep Creations, a company dedicated to providing comfort through knitting beautiful handmade items, the farmhouse offers an inspiring space for crafters of all kinds to gather, create, and connect.

A Legacy Honored

The Craw Home, Circa 1840, has a story as rich as its surroundings. Originally owned by Daniel and Poly Widener, the home became a beacon of resilience in 1902 when Hattie Craw, the family’s great-grandmother, defied societal norms to purchase the property—a rare feat for a woman at the time. On November 21, 2016, the house was officially named a Historical Landmark, recognizing its significance in local history.

Today, siblings Jim and Ruth, continue this legacy. They are lovingly renovating it to preserve its historic charm while creating a vibrant space for creative gatherings.

Ruth Michael: Crafting Comfort and Connection

Ruth Michael, founder of Happy Sheep Creations, has always been passionate about using knitting to bring comfort and joy to others. Her beautifully hand-knitted items embody warmth and care, and her goal is to share this love of crafting with the community. Through Happy Sheep’s events and workshops, Ruth extends her philosophy of comfort and connection to everyone who steps through the doors of the farmhouse.

Supporting the Community

Happy Sheep's Farmhouse actively supports the community through its Supporting Our Community Project:

  • For Individuals Experiencing Homelessness: The Farmhouse assembles adult tote bags filled with essentials such as washcloths, deodorant, soap sacks, and hand-knitted items like hats, blankets, and mittens.

  • For Local Animal Shelters: The Farmhouse donates tote bags filled with pet blankets, beds, and sweaters, ensuring that animals in need receive warmth and comfort.

The Blessing Bags of Happy Sheep Farmhouse

Central to Ruth’s mission is the Blessing Bags initiative. These thoughtfully curated bags include hand-knitted mittens, hats, scarves, blankets, and soap sacks. Each item is crafted with love and care, providing warmth and comfort to those in need. The Blessing Bags are a testament to the farmhouse’s commitment to combining creativity with kindness.

A Creative Haven

Happy Sheep's Farmhouse is transforming into a hub for crafting events, workshops, and retreats. Starting in December 2024, the farmhouse will open its doors for free open crafting hours during the week. Guests can bring their projects, work alongside friends, or make new connections in this welcoming space.

By 2025, the farmhouse will host workshops designed to inspire creativity and skill-building, inviting participants to explore new artistic endeavors while connecting with others.

Crafting Community

Happy Sheep’s Farmhouse isn’t just about crafting—it’s about creating relationships. Every event, whether an informal crafting session or a workshop, fosters connection and collaboration, reflecting Ruth’s commitment to building a community of creators.
